The End?

Did anybody else find the ending a bit odd or out of place? If not, then why do you think it was a fitting ending?

I think the ending fit the story because the man was dying throughout the story and the boy was the strongest mentally so I think that the man dying and the boy surviving was a good ending to the story.

Yes, I thought the the ending tf the The Road was to dull. with all the acting going on uin the bovel I expected the ending of the book to be a strory of triumph and glory for both the boy and the man. I never invisioned that the boy would end up loosing his father.

The part when the man died wasnt odd at all he face some ilness throughout and he had a negative mind set but the fact that the family took the boy in was odd because most people they met or seen was trying to eat others.

I though the ending of The Road was a little weird because i expected more actions and not for the little boy just to find a new family. I thought the boy was just going to be a lonewolf and use his survival skills that was taught byt his father.

Well the ending fit the storyline, although we didn't know there was a family following them. The only thing I would have added was a short bit about how the boy was doing a few years later with the new family.

I think that the ending to The Road was a fitting ending to the novel. The man did not want to be living with his conditions and the boy wanted to go his own way a couple of times. So when the man died it was kind of sad but fitting so that all of the training that the father did to the boy, he would be able to survive on his own or with the group that he was with.

I thought it was good enough. The boy had to move on from his father in order to gain his complete independence. The man did everything he could to keep the boy alive, but he really never cared for himself, so I thought it was clear that the man was not going to make it to the end of the journey.

I thought the ending was a good way to end the novel. Everything fell in to place with the story and how it ended.

I think it can be seen as both with this one. If was fitting becuase throughout the whole story everyone knew the Man was going to die it was just a matter of when. Than on the other hand it was not a fitting ending because another guy just shows up and takes the Boy with him. To me that was kind of a weird ending for the book.

I didn’t really like the end that much. I did find it peculiar when the man was supposedly following the boy and the man the whole time and was waiting for the man to die so he could take the boy in. I was happy though that the boy did find a protector again because he wouldn’t have been able to survive in that type of environment.

I don't think that the ending was odd because it looked to be like the father was handing over his life and lessons on to his son. The son is very mature and in his father dying he can even become stronger and more mature since he's shown characteristics of a very good person.

I think that the ending to The Road was a fitting ending to the novel. The man always knew that he wasn't going to be living with his conditions so we see the man teaching the boy all the time but not memory games or that sort but lessons of how to survive. The man taught the boy not to stay at the waterfall or other attractions for more than a day or two, staying in the bunker, where they could live until the food ran out, not building fires so they can be seen, and collecting everything that holds value for their survival. So when the man died it was kind of sad but it was fitting so that all of the training that the father did with the boy wasn't in vain and the boy would be able to survive on his own with or without the group that he went along with.

I personally liked the ending. This was because the boy had a dream one day jumping into the water off the coast and did. Plus, I thought the boy losing his father put an interesting twist on the novel. I never would have predicted that outcome. It just keeps me wondering what the boy did once he got there. Where did he go next?

I felt that the ending was a little odd and i was disappointed with it. i felt like we read the whole book for no reason and that nothing got accomplished.

The ending was what I expected that the would reach the sea and one of them would die and it just so happened to be the father. I had also had some idea that therte would be another kind person and not everyone was a cannibal.

I don't think the ending was odd but I was disappointed that there was nothing at the ocean when they finally got there. I do think it was fitting for the man to die since he was suffering through the whole thing, and it made me happy that the boy had another family to go with after his father died especially since most people in the book weren't interested in helping each other at all.

I thought the ending was a little odd. I could see the man dieing in the end, because he was sick the entire story, but I didn’t like how the group of people just showed up and took the boy with them. I felt like the author didn’t no how to end it so he just stopped.

I did not find the ending odd at all. There were obviously others who survived, and I do not think it was weird that someone was following the man and boy. I liked the ending and am glad the boy has a chance to live somewhat of a normal life and not have to travel all of the time.

I found the ending of The Road to be very fitting. If the story ended happily with the dad being alive, then it would have been too cliche. Leaving with the Boy starting a new begining and with hope in the future gave the book a good cliff hanging element.

Overall i think the ending was good. It gave us one more good action seen before the man died. The only thing i did not like about the end is that we don't know what happened to the boy. The kinda left it open to think what you want and i did not like that to much

I think the ending was good because the boy survived and made out well. But I think they could have put more about how things were going to turn out for the boy and the family he was with.

I think the ending was fitting because the father dying was signifying the boy taking his role as the savior. This is the begining for the boy and his new group.

The ending was not an ending that was to be used to bring the novel to a conclusion. It was meant to complete the metaphor of the Christ-like child. If the ending did not seem to fit try to think about all of the small biblical metaphors throughout the story and it should slowly begin to fall into place.

I think the ending fit the story because the man was so sick from his cough and, to me, it seemed like he couldn’t go on anymore and it seemed right that he died. I agree with Cody, it would be nice if they showed what happened to the boy later on.

I agree the ending was odd and in my opinion didnt serve justice to the book which was great to read.

To me, the ending wasnt all that bad. I felt as if the ending worked with how the story was going. Throughout the book we all knew and were all hinting at the fact that the man was going to die but what I didnt know was whether he would take his son with him or let him fight and live another day. I found it a bit odd though how the boy had a glow of light around him. I think thqat fits our description of what we all thought that the boy was, a prophet.

I found the ending of the novel to be surprising. After all the times the father and boy had avoided danger, I did not expect for the father to die from a sickness. Even though the ending caught me off guard I did see the reasoning that the author had for ending the story in the way that he did.

I thought that the ending to this novel was very fitting. The entire novel was very somber and mellow so I was not expecting an over-the-top ending. I agree with most of the people who have written here, we knew the father was going to die eventually; it was just a matter of when. It made sense that the boy was rescued by another group because the boy would have been dead within a couple days if he were by himself. The ending was left kind of open, but it fit in with the rest of the story because we jump into the story basically halfway through.

I thought that the ending was not at all out of place. I thought it was a good ending for the novel. What threw me off the most was that the man died. I thought that both the man and the boy would end up living and find a community.

I think the ending was fitting because of the fact that the father needed to let go and let his son grow and not be tied down or cared by someone. Moreover, the boy needed to see reality and learn from his own mistakes.

The ending was fitting, and a little predictable. Throughout the novel, it was obvious that the man had a serious illness and he was always putting his son first and himself second, always caring for the boy's need before his own. And he knew it was better for the boy to go off with the family, because the man did his job of keeping him alive as long as he could.

jakemarshalll said...

the end symbolized the boys journey into adulthood. At least now the man is at peace(with his wife) and he has fufilled his mission: keeping the boy alive until they reached the coast. Also the boy will have a good life with his new family.

i think that the ending at the end of this novel was expected because the man had been sick for awhile and that the boy had subtly been hinted as the "soon to be savior".
