I can honestly say that i do enjoy this poem. It was a little hard to understand at first but once Mr. Dutrow explaned the language use and how the book was set up, it started to make sense and become more interesting. I am ready to find out more about the punishments of the deeper levels.

I think that this is a good book because I have never thought of Hell as the way Dante explains it. I also like the punishments of the people because it is ironic to their lifestyles.

Mike Sipes said...

I love this book because of is detailed discription of the different punishments and what is in that circle of hell. Their is one thing that puzzles me and that is why does Dante have two people transport people to the corect ircle of hell.

Inferno is a good book. It makes sense in a way. It makes me think that this hell is true about the stages and how some people can go to hell but not care. The fitting punishment is also good because someone who murdered many people shouldnt get the smae punishment of a person that hasnt known God. the stories that dante comes across is interesting but crazy at the same time. The Inferno is the best book i read so far at Mt St Joe.

So far I think that Dante's Inferno has been good. As of now the poem has a very fast pace and will have to slow down by book's end. But, in my opinion, honestly I think that so far most of the punishments aren't that bad.

I am enjoying the Inferno so far. I think it is interesting to take a journey through hell. I like the ideas of the punishments. I like them because I like how their punishment is like contradicting the sin that they did in life. I really like this poem. I think that this poem is so interesting; I might read Purgatory and Paradise Lost.

So far the Inferno has been surprisingly soft on its punishments for sins such as lust. To me these punishments seem almost unjust for what these sins really are. Now the we have gotten to the lower circles of Hell I believe that punishments have been more fitting for the crimes or sins.

The poem inferno so far has been ok. I believe it will begin to pick as we get into the more violent crimes and punishments. I think the punishments will begin to get worse and worse and that will add to the poem. But so far it has been ok.

The Inferno is a good book don't get me wrong but the things that goes on in the book is crazy. For example, one of the punishments is sitting in boiling blood. That has to be horrible and painful. But I like books that captivate you and wanting to read more.

I think that The Inferno is very interesting book. It gives you a different viewing of hell than it is really thought of. I never could imagine the different stages. The language and words are more different than i am used too as well. But i think that as we get deeper in to hell it will be way more harsh

The Inferno is very interesting so far. I am really surprised that some of Dante’s images are actually true in reality. The book is actually good because there is always something happening and new characters in every Cantos. I think some of the torture scenes are strange though.

I had previously read the Inferno. I think it is a very good book. I enjoy the difference in Dante's style of writing.

I think that the book The Inferno is a very interesting and creative book. At times it is hard to read and understand, but overall I like it alot. Im looking forward to reading the rest.

For me, I think the "The Inferno" is interesting in the fact that someone can image such punishments for different sins, such as pushing a weight in a semi-circle until it crashes into the weight.
Also, it's intreging in the fact that much of the characteristics in the book I have seen in more recent liturature. For instance, in "His Dark Materials" by Phillip Pullman, he also uses the idea of crossing a river to get to hell, as well as using harpies to punish the souls of the departed.

floridaboycraig said...

My opinion of Inferno so far is that it is very detailed when talking about difference references of Hell. I also think this is a very creative book with a creative story plot, which shows how people travel through life into Hell.

I must admit that i really do enjoy Dante's Inferno. I hate poems and I have never found one that I like until now. The language is tough to understand but hey thats what sparknotes is for isnt it?

IMPERATOR said...

I have enjoyed it so far seeing people tortured for their earthly deeds, getting what they deserved. I lokk forword to reading into more as the Canto's go on.

I think the the book "Inferno" was pretty good so far but it was hard to understand because of the way that the book was written. But overall the book is interesting with what type of punishments people get in hell.

I think that Inferno is a great book. I think that Dante creates an imaginative connection between someone’s sins on Earth and punishments in Hell. It very creative how there are different levels of Hell and how your placement in them depends on the severity of your sins. The punishment themselves are cool because in some ways it is fitting in relation to your sin on Earth. So thus far, the book is very interesting and makes you want to read more.

sep said...

it is very interesting on the views of hell and the different punishments. tho you have to pay attention because it can be very confusing at times, and other times very difficult to understand.

RyanSmith said...

In the beginning I felt like it was a bit wierd but it gets interesting the deeper the level you begin to read about

In my opinion i think that the inferno is a very interesting book. It is unique in that it presents hell in a way unparalleled in his time or that of ours. You know that each circle is going to have its own unique punishment, sins and arrary of monsters. At first this novel didnt make sense but later on it made sense as you kind of followed Dante along in his journey through hell

Since we began the book I enjoyed its simpilcity, but then I learned that the circles are very complex, which adds to the story. Yet some parts are hard to understand overall I think that this is one of the better books that I have read throughout high school. My intial thoughts of the book were totally wrong. I thought it was some anicent poem that made no sense, but it has turned out to be to total opposite.

i think this book isnt as great as everyone says. it was written a really long time ago by a crazy man from italy. so i can honestly say that in no way can i connect with it.the descriptions of hell are intersting, but the character of dante is at times annoying beacsue of the way he tells the story . it would be cooler if there was more action and less of his narration.

Well so far the book been interesting . Its something different and new to read what can I SAY. I love it!!!!!!!!!!

The Inferno brings up many different thoughts in my head about hell and the consequences of our sins. As a high school student I really have never thought about hell and the sins that would cause a person to go there. It seems to have a more general idea of sin, and the issue of repentance is a key. If you sin habitually and are not truthfully repentant you may end up in hell, but a person who makes mistakes in their lifetime and is truthfully sorry for what they have done they won't end up in hell. This book for me has been more than just a cool story and outlook on hell, it has been a learning experience that has put ideas in my head about how to live life and try to improve for the better. As well as making me feel that hell is a scary place. Overall this is a very interesting book and really makes you think before you act.

I think that this book has open my eyes to think about what could come if I started to stray down the wrong path. I think its good cause no one likes to touch on the subject of hell. But this book gives very good depictions and visualizations of it.

tymetrius said...

I think the Inferno is a very interesting book. It gives you the full effect on all the punishments as Dante takes you through the different circles of hell. Even though i do think that some of the punishment are a bit abusive and don't go along with the sin.

Mike said...

It has been very interesting learning about all of Dante's interpretations of Hell. Learning about his thoughts on the stages of hell and the people who were sent to these stages has proven to be very thought-provoking. I am looking forward in seeing how this book will end, now.

ryankwasnik said...

So far I thought that the Inferno has been a good book with alot of descriptive details. I never looked at hell in the way dante descibed it. I thought that it was interesting how there were different levels, and each one having different punishments for what they did.

Vincent Peck said...

I think the novel Inferno is good so far because it has a lot of action in it,and it makes me not want to put the book down because it is so interesting.

I feel that this story has been an amazing one! I feel this way for one reason becasue it shows the darker side of the divine beings and the ultimate divine being, God. I think that this portrays why you should try and strive to do the right thing in life and that life is short so you should appreciate while it lasts.

rob nicholl said...

So far I think Inferno is rather humorous because of the punishments for the people in Hell. I especially think the punishment is funny for the “ass-kissers” because they are wading in a never-ending river of poop. I also think it is funny how people from the clergy are in Hell; you would think that people in the clergy would live a good life and go to Heaven.

Kevin Curley said...

The Inferno is a well written poem that explains Hell better than any other piece of writing I have ever read. I think that some of the things in Hell are very fitting to what should be in Hell, and other people and punishments I don't believe should be there. If I had written this poem the structure of Hell would have been much different; however, the crimes and life styles people lead were much different in those times. This poem is fairly difficult to comprehend, though I want to read his other book about Heaven.

Brian Petroski said...

I really like the book so far. When a person thinks of hell it is just a place with fire all around and your getting beat up or wipped. I never thought that there would be different circle's for different types of punnishments. I think it is very interesting.

Babdo said...

Right now in the Inferno, I think that it is a very odd story. I think that it is a very interesting take on how hell is viewed through his eyes. I find in interesting to think that hell rest right below Jerusalem. I find that it is interesting that he has made different levels of hell. It is cool that all the people are not just in one big circle of hell.

Cody Steward said...

The Inferno right now in the beginning stages of the book is a little bit boring because he just talks about how he did things almost step by step. The other thing is that it's hard to understand, it isn't until I get in class and Mr. Dutrow explains it that I fully get what I just read.

Corey Landon-09 said...

I like the poem so far its very different i have to say, but i like it. I mean is kind of fun reading about the punishments that these people get for the crimes and how creative they can be. it just gets better and better as we go on.

Personally this is not a book that i would preferre so i cant say tha i really like it that much. But this is kind of a interesting book this book gives you insight of what the other side is like other then hearing about heaven.

Andrew Cosgrove said...

Well, judging from what I have read so far about the Inferno has surprised me. It made me think that this could be what God actually sets up what hell is to be. This book brings up that you’re punished according to the crime you did on earth and I started thinking that since God is just, he probably does fit the punishment with the crime.

Todd Ferguson said...

So far it has been a wierd and gruesome book. But for the most part is good and explains very well the different circles of Hell and the punishments.

James Raymond said...

Inferno is a tough book to read and comprehend if you never understood the language that was use way back then to write these kinds of poems. I believe that it is a book that haves to be appreciated because of the context and the story wants you to keep reading so the reader can find out what happens in the end.

kicker said...

so far i think the book is a very interesting one. it has a good story behind it and it is interesting. usually when you think about hell you just think of a hole in the ground with fire all around and people just walking around. this book is different so i thin it is good so far.

When I first started reading Inferno I thought I woouldnot be interestest in it by the way that it started off. But as Mr. Dutrow started to explain it more and more I liked it. I mean started to learn all the level and what hapened in each section. I just think overall that this a good book for any onw in high skool to read .

Personally I really don't like the book, but yeah I guess if I understood it better and could connect with things happening in the book maybe I could enjoy it. Honestly though I can't see my self enjoying it much.

Dante's Inferno does not seem like an average poem. I read it more like a novel than anything else. The old english makes it hard to read, but when I get do get what is says the book becomes okay. It's pretty interesting to see what Dante's veiw of hell is, although I definatly do not beleive Hell is anything like how Dante describes it to be.

Chris Bodan said...

I would hate to say it, but I strongly dislike this book. It seems so obvious that this is a dream and nothing more. Between the blatant prejudice against anyone that opposed Italy to the crimes with the worst punishment being things that Dante disliked most, it just is too obvious to me that this is a false tale. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if he hadn't made this trip seem like his fantasy Hell in the book. Even right down to his guide, Virgil, Hell is exactly the perfect Hell for Dante. All of his opponents, people he disliked, and factions he opposed have made their way here. Even someone that isn't dead yet somehow arrived in there.
