Now that we have finished the book and the movie, what was the biggest difference between the two that you noticed? What scenes did you noticed get left out? Was that scene important or not?
The biggest difference was when Amir and Sohrab where in the hotel and they didn’t show Sohrab cut his wrist. That was an important scene that they left out. They left out many important scenes in the movie even though it was a good movie the book is still better. Another important scene that should have added was when Amir was talking to the US ambassador in helping him get Sohrab into the US.
A scene that I noticed that was out was that there was a scene where there was no scene with Sohrab, no suicide attempt nothin. The scene was important, because it showed the real stuff, also Sohrab's emotional state. I tshowed how far AMir went to keep Sohrab.
The biggest difference that I noticed between the movie and the book was trying to get Sohrab back into the United States of America. The movie didn’t show Sohrab and Amir having difficulty trying to get back into the US. I noticed that the scene where Sohrab tried to commit suicide was left out of the movie. The reuniting between Hassan and his mother was also left out and when Hassan was killed. I do believe all of these scenes were important, but the movie couldn’t be too long so it was necessary to cut these scenes out.
An important scene they altered was when Assef and Amir fought. I believe they should have made this more full to show just how gruesome it was. This would have added a more realistic effect to the movie.
I thought that both the movie and the book were great. The movie was very good at capturing the main idea of the book. I agree that some things were left out and some of the scenes were not as graphic as they were in the book wich could have made it more interesting. Overall though I thought they movie was a good representation of the book.
One thing that i saw that was differnt with the book and the movie was when amir met with assef to get Sohrab. When he you see assef he donse not have blond hair as he dose in the book. Thsi was a minor detail but one that i saw. Over all i thouhgt the book and the movie were very good.

I have to agree with Julian the scene when Sohrab was cutting his wrist. They also didn't show the process of sohrab coming to america. That was also a big part.
An important scene that was left out to me was when Amir was trying to get Sohrab into the US. The movie just goes from one scene right to them meeting Soraya at the airport. The scene was important because it had Amir arguing with Raymond Andrews about caring for children.
Now that we have finished both the novel and the movie I believe that there is a huge difference between these two. Though the movie does represent some portions of the book very well, I think it distorts some of the details that make this story more humanistic in nature to its audience. The slight details of the book that are left out don't change the big picture of the story, but could have a great affect on the view readers have on each of the individual characters.

Although there were many pieces missing I believe that this was probably one of the most significant. Also the movie left out the length of the struggle to get Sohrab through to the U.S. It was just sumed up, it wasn't as drawn out as it was in the book.

This scence showed the emotional distress Sohrab was under and afterwards the incident created a little bit of a bond between Sohrab and Amir. By cutting it out the only bond we get was the end scene when Amir chases the kite.
There were a couple things that was different in the book from the movie. After Amir faught Assef, Amir was still laying down in the room, but in the book he ran to a car. They also didnt show when they went to the hotel. They left the scene where sohrab tried to cut his wrist. This scene was important because it shows why Amir acted more cautously with sohrab.
The biggest difference in the two was Amir’s experience in America was different. The movie talked more in depth with it, and the movie didn’t really show them having their problems. Also, the Sohrab suicide part was left out of the movie.
After reading the novel and then watching the movie i found many differences. Some of the differences were how the characters acted, and also there was a big difference in the action. The action in the book was a lot more suspenseful, and the action in the movie was a lot duller. For example the rap seen in the book was a lot more graphic than it showed in the movie.
The movie Kite Runner, on its own, was a great movie, but reading the book before helped and also makes the audience think about the scenes cut out of the movie and only stayed in the book. I question one of the things that they took out that I thought showed the downfall of Baba’s character well when both Amir and Baba moved to America. They talk about the time when he came into a store that he had been shopping for almost two years and they ask for his ID. Baba is extremely angry because he wants to make a statement that mainly says that he was use to going down the street in his country and knowing everyone and did not have to have his ID. He is huge into tradition and his lifestyle he did not want changes and missed his old ways. In the movie, they skip that, go right into Amir turning 20, and forget the years and the character development in between.
The scene that was cut out in the movie is when Sohrab comes into the room and dances for Assef and Amir, and when Sohrab is done Assef begins touching him and kissing him. I think this was important because it showed that Assef was raping him, and showed how sick he really was. If I never had read the book I dont know if I would have picked up on that.
The main thing that was not not put in the movie, that was a really important part, was when Sohrab cut his wrist. I thought that part made the outcome of the story. It was so important to the ending and the filmmakers just left it out. I did not understand.

Sometimes it was hard to follow becuase you were looking for a certain scene that happened in the book, but it never happened in the movie. A scene that was not in the book was when Rakim and Baba was sitting on the sofa talking about Baba building the orphanage and giving money towards the project. It was little different in both.
To me, I very much enjoyed both the movie and the book. However, when it came to the movie I was upset with some of the sense they cut. I would have rather have sense the gift from Baba that was the fix in Hassan’s lip and not a kite. I felt as if that one part was a very crucial part in the novel because it should Baba’s love for Hassan

Aside from the fact that the movie lacked the emotion that the book did have, I thought they did a very good job remaking it. Obviously there were some differences (Sohrab attempting to commit suicide), but the movie did a pretty good job of telling the overall story.
Yeah they didn't show or even show the after effects of Sohrab trying to kill himself by cutting his wrists. This is a very important scene because it provides info in a subtle way about how bad it is to have to live there, and then be in an orphanage. Plus he doesn't want to be raped again. Also it might show the fact that since he didn't feel he could ever get clean, that he would take his life, and God would cleanse him.
When comparing the two, I feel that the movie, like Mike said, didn't capture a lot of the emotion that the book gave the reader. It seemed like the movie did not want to show the really raw stuff, like most people have already mentioned Sohrab slitting his wrists, which was an important scene in the movie.
The biggest difference between the movie and book was the entire part with the hotel. the movie skipped over the part where sohrab cut himself and was brought to the hospital. i think this was an important part of the book because it showed readers just how depressed he really was about the thought of being sent back to an orphanage. in the movie he just decided to stop talking which was kind of boring.
There are a few scenes that I wished they showed in the movie, when Sohrab tried to kill himself; the time Baba also destroyed the little convenience store, and when Baba also killed the soldier because he wouldn’t leave the woman alone. I think that they are all important scenes that they should have shown in the movie.

The film however seemed to stop for key points for a few minutes and quickly jump to a new scene. Montages were the movie's best friend it seems.
For the most part the movie and the book where similar but some spots they were different . Many times it seems like they left the important parts out the ones that make the story. Like Sohrab cutting his wrist. That was the turning point where was trying to make things right between him and his best friend. Another one is when they didn’t put in the movie where Amir was having a hard time getting back into America.
My personal opinion was that the movie was too geared towards exciting the crowd and drawing audiences as where the book was more factual and didn’t contain as exaggerated scenes.
I thought the movie did a fairly good job in portraying the important themes of the book. Every book that has been made into a movie that I have seen has not been exact either. The main problem I had with the movie was that the subtitles were yellow and very hard to read.
