Redemption

Amir seems to truly be sorry for the way he treated Hassan. Do you think that by saving Sohrab and wanting him to live with him and Soraya he has been redeemed for his "past sins" as he puts it? If not what else does he need to do?

in a way yes, but what I would have done is go back and kill Assef to really set everything back. Kill the one who caused all your childhood pain.

I think ideally that Amir would of liked Sohrab to live with his birth parents, but the circumstances prohibit that and I feel that the next best thing is for Sohrab to go and live with Amir and Sorayau. At the very least they know that Sohrab will live a better and longer life in America as opposed to Kabul.

I think that saving Sohrab he has done something for Hassan’s son that he didn’t do for Hassan. By allowing Sohrab to live with Amir and Soraya he has given a good friends son something that he didn’t give Hassan.

I think that Amir needs to forgive himself. Hassan forgave Amir, and told him so in the letter that was given to Rahim Khan. Yes, rescuing Sohrab may help him feel like he has redeemed himself, but in Hassan's eyes, he was already forgiven.

I believe that not just by saving Sohrab will redeem Amir for the ways he has been treating Hassan. I believe that it will take a lot more for Amir to do until Hassan forgives Amir.

In addition to confronting Ashef, he has redeemed for his past actions with Hassan. Like he said this was the least that he owe to Hassan for being there when he needed him.

I personally do not think Amir must make up for not saving Hassan. But he has guilt and so he needs self redemtion. By saving Sohrab he feels he has compensated for what happened with Hassan. Amir's redemtion was only for his concionce. So the only person who can judge whethor or not it was enough is Amir.

I do not think he can ever be relieved from the pain of not helping Hassan. I think this does make him feel better and he knows he is now doing the right thing and that Hassan would be very great full. Deep down inside Amir will never be able to forgive himself for not stopping the rape of Hassan.

I do believe that Amir saving Sohrab and wanting him to live with him and Soraya helped redeem his past sins because Sohrab was such a vital part of Hassan’s life. He risked his life for Sohrab and Hassan would have done the same if Amir was in a dangerous situation.

Although he can never go back and reset his childhood, I feel that what he did is enough to redeem himself. He didn't have to fight for his nephew but he did anyway.

I think that Amir didn't need to redeem himself. It was only in his own mind that he felt that he had done something terribly wrong. Hassan did not feel betrayed by Amir, and Rahim Khan didn't blame Amir for what happened, so it was only himself that he needed to make peace with. In saving Sohrab and beating Assef he finally let himself feel free from the sin that he believed he committed.

I think by helping and saving sohrab Amir has been redeemed because of wanting to change himself, and help someone else. This has helped Amir to be a better person not just for that momnet but for the rest of his life.

In the case of Assan getting sohrab, and saveing him will help him clear up the sins and the bad stuff done in the past. even if this dose not erase the sins of the past, it will help him live his life without the guilt of the things he has done in his past. Personally i agree with this and feel that if he dose this it will help clear his guilt up and redeem himself.

I think by saving Sohrab that Amir has redeemed himself for the past sins he had against Hassan because Amir has way too much guilt. So Amir actually risks his life and goes into dangerous waters to save Hassans son so he can have a better life in America with him and Sorayau.

I believe that Amir is redeemed for his past becuase of what he did for Sohrab. Not many people would go back to a war tourn nation. It was a choice for Amir to go to back and save a child he thought was just the child of his friend. That made it even more special, but when he found out that Sohrab was his nephew he did not change his determation and desire to save Sohrab.

I wouldn't say that it is redemption for the way he treated Hassan, but to realize that he cared for Hassan enough to go out of his way and risk his life to rescue Sohrab shows that he grew a lot on the inside from the beginning of the novel.

I believe that Amir saving Sohrab from his terrible fate that he would've suffered in Afghanistan does redeem him for the way he treated Hassan, his brother, in the beginning of the novel. At the same time I do think that Amir owes it to Hassan and Sohrab himself to provide for the boy throughout his childhood and into his adult life in America. As a blood relative he owes it to his kin to protect his family throughout the remainder of his life.

I think that Amir wasn't truly sorry until he realized that he was going to have to fight for Sohrab it. Yet, even before that it wasn't until he found out that Sohrab was his nephew that he felt obligated to follow through and actual get Sohrab. I don't believe that Amir truly thought that he would take Sohrab with him when he first came back to Afghanistan. But he must have felt that by freeing Sohrab that was his release from his connection of guilt with Hassan.

I think Amir has made up for his childhood sins against Hassan. By saving someone who he really didn't have to save he in a sense avenged Hassan. Amir gave Sohrab a second chance by coming to America. He gave him a better life than the one he had in Afghanistan.

I do think that he is sorry for what happened between him and Hussan. If he wasn't he wouldn't have went back to go save Sohrab of go back to Afganistan in total. He feels ashamed and this is his way of expressing that he does. I think that Amir should have also killed Assef to.

Yes, I think that saving Sohrab allowed Amir to deal with his past sins. By risking Amirs life to save Sohrab he can finally deal with what he has done. Sohrab can finally have a good life instead of spend it being raped by the Taliban.

I do think that helping Sohrab did make up for some of his actions in the past. But nothing that he did could make up for watching his best friend get sexually abused the way he did. Hassan most likely didn’t grow up the normal kid he should have because of that.

I believe that when Amir saved Sohrab, it caused closer from the bad actions and mistakes Amir made during his time with Hassan. What I mean by this is that sense Amir could have done something to help Hassan during the rape, and didn’t, he got self forgiveness, by help Sohrab, Hassan’s son.

Kirby Riehl said...

By taking Sohrab into his house, his nephew is enough for him to make up his past sins he did against Hassan. Amir put his life into danger trying to save Sohrab. I think that would be enough redemption. Hassan would be soo happy that Amir took Sohrab in.

Babdo said...

In a way I do believe he did. He risked his life to save a boy who he really didn’t know. He had to do this to clean his heart in his sense. This also works because of the fact that he never really was able to apologize to Hassan for the wrong he did to him so he is becoming good through Hassan’s son.

Yes Amir has relieved himself from his sins when he treated Hassan bad, by going to save Sohrab. But there is something that always could be done. He could give back to his hometown and make it a much safer place. For example, he could start foundations and charities to help out.

I think Amir is truly sorry that is why he went through all the trouble to save Sohrab. I think that be saving him Amir does make up for most of the bad things that he did to Hassan as a child.

I think that Amir needs to do more things mentally to give back to Hassan than physically to make things better because Hassan wasnt a mean frien o him he ried to help him anyway he could. Amir needs to get that friend connection back with Hassan by talking to him man to man.

Cody Steward said...

I guess so, but I think it has more to do with the fact that Assef beat the crap out of Amir. Because at least now he's gotten a fair punishment for his actions, the one that he had wanted. This is why I think he feels/is redeemed.

You have to have the drive and courage to go back to the country you were born in, try to defend a kid that you never really met, and be able to make sure you come out of that country alive. That has to be a tough thing to do and it shows by the struggle that Amir Sohrab had to go through in order to be free. Doing something like that deserves automatic redemption, however, there is always room to grow and become better.

I feel that by saving Sohrab from living a horrible life over in Kabul, Amir should be forgiven. Do i feel that he could have and should have done more instead of waiting all those years to do something about it? Of course, but he made a mistake, like everybody does, and he knows he did and wants to be forgiven and feel better about it. He can't change the past so I don't see anything else that Amir could do. He did all he could do by saving Sohrab.

I think that Amir has been redeemed for his “past sin”. He went all the way back to his homeland to save Sohrab, even though those weren’t his first intentions. Amir had established his family and had a good life. He knew that he could possibly make amends by going in a dangerous area to rescue Sohrab. Then after that, he had to work some magic to get Sohrab into America.

I think that it depends on the person to think if they can be redeemed for doing something that they feel bad about or fixing something that should not of happened. Yes, I think that Amir is redeemed because Rahim Kahn told him this would help and he felt that this was his last connection to Hassan and Hassan would be proud to have his step-brother raise his son so he doesn’t have to go through the same hardships Hassan had to go through. Lastly, he risked his own life to do this so if that’s not believing in if someone gets redeemed or not I don’t know what is.

i think amir definitely redeemed himself for his past sins by saving sohrab. going back to his destroyed home city and facing the person he feared most as a child was a very brave thing for him to do, especially since he usd to be a huge coward. he could have killed assef, but just saving sohrab was enough to prove himself.

I don’t think Amir has redeemed himself for his past sins, but I do think that by saving Sohrab, he has made up for a portion of his past sins. I agree with Joe Brown on this, I would also go and kill Assef that way he would not be able to harm other children.

For the most part I feel that in a way he has paid back his friend . Even though he did the most heartless thing I think, that he has done the best he can do. there is not much more he can do as a fact. this problem has screwed his life and his best friends life and am sure a day did not go past with the image burned in the back of his mind.

I think he has paid his dues. Thats saying alot taking in someones else kid and loving him like your own Hassan would be proud.

Dirty Pete said...

Although it is a fact that Amir cannot go back in time and change things between him and Hassan, there are ways to 'pay him back.' I think he did all that he could to make things right with Hassan.

Many people could disagree with this statement, but I hold a strong belief what has been done in the past can not be atoned for. What has been done is done. It can not be unmade and therefore nothing done after the fact can only lighten the scars you have left. My argument is not that Amir should try to do nothing to help smooth over the trouble he caused. He should still always try to help the past mistakes pass with less damage. He should continue to do so whenever the opportunity arrives.

I think Amir redeemed his self because he went through hell to get Sohrab back and i think personal i was Hassan i would say that Amir has a clean slate in my eyes. I think all the work he did cleaned the dirt away.

Amir did all he could at this point in time to right the wrongs of his past. He could not do anything more to make up to Hassan then rescue Sohrab.
