Through the first four chapters I feel that this is the best book we have read yet. It really keeps your interest. The fact that Professor Lurie had sex with three different people within the first twenty pages of the book is crazy. I hope that the story does not slow down.

Unfortunately Zach, it does. He moves out into the country with his lesbian daughter and it slows down dramatically for about 4-6 chapters. But 11 definately picks up big time. Just keep reading!

So far this book has been very interesting and sexualy active. Professor Lurie is a creepy guy but he has no problem getting women. Though they are his downfall so far it seems. It will be interesting to see how the book goes on and what happens next in his sex life.

well in this book so far it is really interesting, with David Lurie moving in with his obese daughter is kind of weird. He is not use to the area or anyhing, he has to try and work with what he has. In the first few chapters it seemed that this guy has no end in sexual encounters, he will make love to almost anyone who is different. It's strange of how he changes because he is now living with family. I was surprised he managed to keep his sexual urges to himself even though he should because of what happened with Melanie. To me his flaw is that he goes to far with the women. He went to far with Soraya to call a whore at her home.

Disgrace has been an interesting book so far. Just in the first couple of pages in the book, it catches your attention. There is professor, David Lurie, who has one time affairs with lots of women and usually meets with a prostitute. Then he has enough nerves to pursue one of his students that he is teaching and wants to be intimate with her. It will be interesting to see how this whole situation turns out.

The book is ok I guess. The thing that I don’t like about the book is Lurie because of what he does to the one girl in his class. Lurie needs to control himself when it comes to the woman that he sees and how he acts around them.

My feelings about the book so far is that it is a really good book that grabs your attention. Lurie really stands out as a person that you can picture easily because you have heard of teachers that have done the same exact thing that Lurie has done. I really want to see what happens to him and how he acts now that he has been caught.

Disgrace is actually a ok book. What might catch my attention about the book his the affairs that hes having with Soraya. I think the sex stories is going to keep people interested in this book.

Reading Disgrace thus far, it catches my attention by how much sexual activity Lurie is getting at his age from younger women. And how he seems to always do something to ruin his relationships with women.

My feelings about this book is that this man chasing these girl around for sexual pleasure is ridiculous. After reading more of the book i started to like it more but when i first started reading it, i thought it was crazy how a teacher preying on inocent women.

I am not going to be like Ackerman and say this is the world’s best piece of literature, but it has been a solid read. The more I read the more I get interested. I am wondering to see what happens to David at the end. I am guessing that all of his wrong doing will come back to haunt him in the end. We will see.

Im in love with this book, i just cant take my eyes off the pages. So far it has really got me sucked in because of all the drama and action. SOme of the things that suck me in are, a creepy old man who plays around with women, and also when there was a home invasion seen, and where David get his head tourched up.

The book Disgrace is in fact a book I do like, not just because of the flow and effortlessness, but more importantly the depth of each character and how real they come to be. How the author makes the reader understand easily how each character feels and or shows emotion. The idea that these are real people and real situations help make the book great in its work.

I've actually really enjoyed it so far. Nothing seems to phase David Lurie, when his job tells him that he must seek some kind of help for what he did to Melanie, he tells them he won't and ends up shifting his whole life in one night by moving in with his daughter. Even though these events don't seem to phase him, I believe everything in his life is about to start crashing down around him

I really enjoyed the beginning of this book, but the end I found was pretty boring. I thought it was interesting that in this book the author almost wants you to hate the main character. Not many books are written this way.

Owen Doane said...

In the first four chapters of Disgrace I see David Lurie as a man that cannot control his desires. He is to cowardly to admit that the way he took advantage of Melanie Isaacs was wrong. Lurie also seems to be a complete creep of a human-being.

I think this book is really strange in its own way. I find it weird that an old man always needs to have sex with young girls. I feel like he should be doing that stuff with women his own age. I find it hard to compromise with the reason of Lucy and acting like everything is fine after being raped and robbed. But overall, the story does have its lessons and reasons why things happen.

Kirby Riehl said...

Im not going to lie, I really dont like the book to much. I do not like it because I think that David Lurie is creeper, who can not get his mind off sex and he even thought of his daughter unattractive and things like that. I think he is a nasty guy who needs to get his mind right.

Brian Petroski said...

I think Disgrace so far is a good book. David seems to be a little weird, but that is what makes the book more interesting. Other than that I think it is a good book and i look forward to reading it.

The novel Disgrace so far is an interesting book that has me wanting to read more. Reading it so far catches my attention how Lurie scores with woman early in the book. Its like he's an old playa or some sort that wants to feel young again.

Derrick Samuelson said...

My opinion of the book so far is that I believe that it is pretty good but extremely weird. It is about a fifty-two year old man that is a sex craving person.

tymetrius said...

In the beginning it seem like Mr. Lurie had some seriuous problems in his life. But he chose to make a change so he moved awayy from all the drama and came back a better person much more respectful of others and not so much of him self.

Robert Miller said...

For the first couple of chapters it was moving at a fast pace but when I got to the end it speed of how the book moved along slowed down a ton and it made it hard to finish

kicker said...

The first few chapters were very interesting. All the crazy things that David does just keep you interested in the book. it does slow down when he runs away which is not that fun to read. But i'm glad that it picked back up.

I really did enjoy the book "Disgrace." Even though this book could be very disturbing I felt that it really showed how lonley some people can be and how that lonliness ultimatley effects there mental capacity. I think that Professor Lurie was definitley a weird guy and he had some social issues, but I think that a lot of that came from the fact of his lonliness.

I would say that Disgrace is one of the better books that I have read in my entire school career. Granted to that this book is a little weird for many reasons.

Going back to what Hulsey said, I would say the fact that he is a creep, and still has no trouble getting women goes back to what we talked about in class about words close to his name. Lure- he can attract people, and Lurid- he's very disgusting the way he thinks sometimes. And I would go as far to call him a tragic hero though, which seems what your headed towards Jake, with the "They(women) seem to be his downfall" statement.

In the first couple of chapters the book moves in a fast pace which is good, but when I got towards the end it definitely got harder to finish because the book moved more slowly.

Looking back on the book Disgrace, it was a story about how a man who could only think of women for sex and not really take the time to get to know any of them. He has sex with Melanie the very first time he meets with her outside of school and even towards the end of the book he has sex with Bev Shaw since she is the only women that he could really have sex with because the only other woman there is his daughter. And also he goes to see Melanie's play and afterwards, later that night, has sex with a younger prostitute. This goes to show that Lurie did not really change much throughout the book, which is not what I had expected.

Disgrace is a different book. The characters you read about should only be in books because if a person was really that stupid there life would be bad. David is a one in a trillion person just because of all the things he thinks are right and wrong. He didn't think that having an affair with one of his students was bad so its something wrong with him inn the head.

Since I didn't post on this when it was first posted I'll just talk about what I thought of Disgrace as a whole.
I thought that Disgrace was a very straightforeward book. The author portrayed a very simplistic charecter and was able to convey what the charecter's thoughts were very easily. We were able to see how David Lurie changed from an older man whose only thoughts were sex and teaching his classes into an older man who is willing to let things go.

At first I thought that this novel would take forever to read and I would dread it. I was right for the first couple of chapters, but when David moves out to the country my perspective on this book is flip-flopped and I saw all the action in this book and I ending up really liking it by the time I finished. The thing I liked the most was the unexpected yet surprising events.

So far this is very exciting. When i start to read i cant put this book down. David Laurie i feel like is a pimp in his own world. I cant wait to read more, and i cant wait to finish reading this novel.

I feel like Disgrace is just like Kite Runner except instead of having Amir as the main character, we are looking at the story of Assef and his sexual frustrations.

The book starts out very interestingly. As a teenage high school boy all the sex scenes caught my attention. David Lurie, although somewhat perverted, has a way with the ladies.

Joey Barrick said...

Reading everyone's comments I noticed that everyone keeps mentioning how Lurie has sex all the time with all different types of women, but when you get around the fact that David Lurie is promiscuous you realize that the book is just like any other story. I don't think this book is as good as some of the other books we have read.

Chris Bodan said...

The book Disgrace was very slow. It had too many dry spots that made me want to just stop reading all together. I don't enjoy books based on the life of a normal person. This one is no exception. I would love to say I enjoyed reading it, but I just didn't.

Even though we are done the book now this book has been the easiest to read and understand for the most part. This book has a guy named David Lurie that is obsessed with sex, and he can’t be around anyone that is 30 or more years younger because he thinks that they are attractive. It’s really sad that both in the kite runner and disgrace have rape scenes in it. They show how people handle there life after something terrible like that.

My feelings about the book Disgrace so far are pretty much positive. I feel that this book delivers a lot of difference in the characters yet it leaves it open enough to where you can find a common connection between all the characters.

Joe Dingle-EL said...

I would have to say that the title through me off completely. I had no idea that this book was going to be this interesting. Even though David is a creep and Lucy gets rape you can see that people can change. I think it shows you people go through all their ups and downs throughout life.

I thought disgrace was a good book in the beginning, but I thought it went downhill from there. Overall I thought it was a fairly interesting book about a creepy old man trying to become a less creepy old man.
