Father and Son

So far from what we have read in The Road, What do you think about the relationship between the Man and his son? Do you think they have a good relationship? Does the father give the son to much false hope?

I think that the man and his son in the road have a good relationship. In a way they kind of half to have a good one this is because they only have each other to talk to and be with. The father is overprotective of him. But who would not be i would want to make sure my son is also fine.

The relationship between the father and son is a strong bond. There relationship have gotten strong because of all the things that they have gone through would just make them connect better. The son doesn't know know how much his father loves him because he will do anything for him.

The father usually tells the truth to his son, he is rarely harsh about it but the boy is always making him promise to tell him the truth, or to let him know when they will die etc. The man quite obviously loves the boy, not only because he is taking care of him in this twilight world, but because he is a reminder of his wife, the world he had before, he is his son and he could never stop loving him, not out here, not where he is now. The boy probably loves his father, we never really get his view, we don't get to see flashbacks in his perspective, but we do know that he is almost unfalteringly obedient, he is kind and generous, and that even in this post-apocalyptic world, the boy has in him the goodness and altruism that will be required to rebuild society.

I think they have a great relationship. If they did, then they would be at each others throats. Despite the father's overprotectiveness he is still good at keeping an eye out for his son.

I think so far the boy and his father have a very good relationship. The father cares so much about his son maybe even to much. I think the father is doing what most parents would do and that is protect their child and stay alive so i do not think he is giving him false hope.

I think that the father and the son have a good relationship. Because of the fact that all they have is each other, this alone will bring them closer. At time during the beginnig of the story the father sometimes gave a sense of false hope to the boy. He made the boy think that everything was going to be good and fine all the time. But as we went along that idea changed, because even if he wanted he could not lead his son to believe anything that was not true. The boy has experienced for himself what is going on around them and knows what is happening.

I wouldn't exactly say their relationship is great. They are two completely different people. the man is a "survival of the fittest type" where as the boy believes in showing mercy. Plus, since this is the only person the boy knows, there is no other relationship to compare with this one. I would say that they have a strong bond.
yes I think that the father gives the son WAY too much hope. a little is good, when the child is sad/frightened, but too much won't be of much help once the child starts to become a man.

I think they have a great relationship; his father has always been there for him so far. I don't think his father gives any false hopes, I just think his father doesn't want to lie and tell him anything that isn't true. But his father has always been there which is great.

I think that the relationship between the father and son is very strong and it has been because they only have each other. The father has showed on many occasions that he wants the boy because he could have easily killed the boy and betters his chances of survival. The father is not giving the boy false because good things eventually do happen for them.

I think the relationship between the father and son is strong and full of trust. The man can only pray that his son keeps trust in him throughout the whole situation. The father always makes sure his son is happy.

I think that the father son relationship that the boy and dad have is really good because they know each other well. The son is also very smart and knows what his dad means by the actions his father does. I dont think that the father gives the son false hope because most of the time he is straight foreward with him and it seems like he doesn't want to lie to his own son.

I think that they have a shaky relationship. The boy seems to question some of the things the father wants to do or where he wants to go. I think the father does give him too much false hope because he promises him that there are good people out there when all they encounter are evil cannibals whose only intention is to kill them and eat them.

I think the relationship between the father and son is loving but the father still is not honest with the boy when the boy asks him questions. It really shows the love that the father has for his son because he said it would be hard to kill him if he needed to and he lies to the boy to keep him thinking in a positive way.

I think that their relationship in this story isn't on the same page. The boy seems very wise for being so young, and the father still thinks of him as a small child, or a baby. The Man never really listens to the boy, when he says that he’s afraid of doesn't want his father to go into certain houses. The man has ignored what he has said several times, which I think is very disrespectful. If he loves his child he should listen to what he says instead of always brushing it off.

The relationship between the man and the boy is vrey good in many ways. The man shows his father hood towards his son whenever the son needs some type of assistance. The father gives the son good hope because there was times when the son's self esteem was down and the father always told him that everything was ok.

I believe that earlier in the beginning when the author takes the reader on a time machine taking us back to a clip with the man and his wife and how she desperately wanted the three of them to die. She believed there was no hope for any of them, but the man knew that he had to have is son get to live and see the world. Deep down he knew there was something really special about the boy and what he could do when he is alive growing up.
I think the man is extremely over protective but is willing to let the boy see as much as he could, even though half the time nothing was there. He wanted him to see the world and so that’s why they traveled all over the place and because the father was scared someone would come and find them.

The relationship between the man and his son is slightly good and bad. The boy is being protected by the father because he loves his son very much. The only problem is that the father doesn’t listen to his son that often. The father does give hope in a positive way because he always tells his son that it will get better.

I think that the man and his son have a good relationship because of what they are going through. This time is really tough and without a good relationship the progress that they have made would have never happened. I feel as if the father is trying to what is best for his son, and he does this.

For teh most part the man is doing what every good father would do. Even though it may seem at times like he is acting really hard on the kid but he is just making sure that he does everything in his power to make sure his son stays safe. wether the sin like it or not its the way its going to be.Beacuse if it was not for his father they both would be dead. there relationship is strong the father is someone to look up to and the son trust him alot i think.

I think they have a really good relationship. The father doesn't baby the son too much which is good because the son needs to learn to be tough, which he isn't right now because he still gets tired and scared really easily. I don't think the father gives him too much false hope either because of course, he wants to keep the boy optimistic, but if the boy keeps asking the same question, the father will eventually admit the truth usually.

I think that the father and his son have a strong relationship that can only be found in a fatherly bond.I dont think that giving his son false hope is a bad thing, If you wish to keep his spirits up.

The relationship the two hold right now is a very strong but unstable relationship. The father is extremely overprotective. The child on the other hand is unable to care for himself in a way that will allow him to live on his own. He has been protected to the point in which he does not know how to care for himself. You see this later in the novel when he openly trusts the stranger that approaches him.

yah the Father does kinda give off alot of false hope but thats what you need sometime to make an situation look better than what it really is. I do think the relationship between them is good because if it wasnt i dont think he would bring him along his journey.

I think The Road shows a strong relationship between father and son because the man really cares about his son . Plus we see that his father will die for his or kill for his son.But this novel also shows you how parents are stuck in there ways for example the man does not listen to nothing that the boy says to him.At least while all of that evil is taken place the boy stile has a good heart.

To me I think that the man and the boy have a good relationship. They both are looking out for each other and trying to help each other to survive. In the end when the man died the boy covers the man with a blanket .

The man and the boy in the novel have a very good relationship. All they have is each other, for protection, to talk to, to make decisions with. If they did not get along, they might disagree on a lot of decisions, which could cost them their life. I also believe that the man is very protective of his son, especially since he shot a dude straight in the face for holding a knife to the boy's throat. Another example that shows tha they have a good relationship is how the boy will listen his father, which shows that he trusts in his decision even when he does not agree with it.
