Is THe Road the sequel to Brave New World

Well we are almost done with The Road and we finished Brave New World. So I have a question seeing both stories do you think The Road is a sequel to Brave New World?

nope. if anything, the road precedes bnw. Chronologically this makes sense. Also, the nine year war referenced in bnw could be the nuclear apocalypse in the road. Interesting idea Joe

I don't think the Road is a sequel because to re populate the world they would need more people and supplies. I don’t think they would start to create humans. Although if you switched the stories up it would make a little more sense, after everything went bad the world would fall apart.

I don’t see the Road being a sequel to Brave New World. I can’t see this because The Brave New World has such a structured civilization where there could be no nuclear apocalypse that would even occur. Then the timing of the two books would not match up.

The Road is not the sequel to Brave New World. Brave New World features a lot of people who are put into different classifications and the world becoming very industrial. I don't think that a nuclear attack in the Brave New World setting would wipe out most of the population.

Joe I never put these two stories together and now that you have said something I think that could be the case. I think that the society could have gotten so out of hand that they had to go to extremities to end it. I can understand where you are coming from. I think that the extremity that BNW society took to end it was the nuclear bomb.

I do not think that The Road is a sequel to Brave New World because the civilization in Brave New World is so perfect and organized that it couldn't lead into The Road. But I think it would make more sense that The Road would be before Brave New World because they would want to make the world a better place so that type of thing wouldnt happen again.

I don't really see where you are getting this idea Joe but i do think that Jacob Marshall maybe right. I think it would make more sense if the Brave New World came after The Road because of how "civilized" the world seems to be.

Not at all, it could however be a substory to Brave New World, but definently not a sequal.

No, the Road is not a sequal to Brave New World. the books are no type of comparison to me ones about grouping people together and the others about no one else being on earth.

I do not see as impossible The Road to be a sequel of A Brave New World. But I believe that they are very far off from each other. They could connect eventually, but not for at least another hundred years. The society of Brave New World could fall and The Road could be its result. But there would have to be something between the two to explain what actually happened. I don't think that reader would be able to connect the stories very well without a point of explaination.

The Road doesn't even compare to Brave New World, they are about two different things, and two totally different types of societies. The Road is about a disfunctional world after an explosion that wiped out at least the U.S., and Brave New World is about a Utopian type society, that has people who like to bend rules. They're not even in the same ballpark as far as story lines

I don't think so much as a sequal but more as a prelude to Brave New World. The Road could be the explosion and all the destruction that has happened to the world. Then when the boy reaches the beach and the other group he becomes the leader and sets up society like Brave New World. This would all work with a few minor tweaks but in all essesnce would be a pretty cool collection to have.

I in no way think that The Road is any type of sequal to Brave New World. Brave New World was based on a very structured futuristic society, and in The Road it is talking about how to cope with a disaster and how humans react to tragedy. I just don't think that either of the two are related in any way.

I do think that The Road is a sequel to Brave New World because the brave new world everything is upgraded such as new technology and people are living newly found lifestyles.

After reading both of these stories I believe that Brave New World would be the sequel to The Road, rather than the other way around. After the battles and the way civilization fell apart in The Road after the bombs went off the civilization that is built up in Brave New World is what I believe would result from the chaos and violence that has taken over the world in The Road.

Naturally, it would make more sense to switch it around and make the sequel Brave New World for The Road instead. It would only make sense because the story and the background in the novel The Road would start up the life and ideas that the people were living in the World States believed in. The struggle that the people had to go through in the beginning (The Road) and eventually, as years past, the culture grows and develops into the World Stat (Brave New World).

No I do not. I do not think The Road is like Brave New World at all or its the sequel. I think the two books were very different from each other.

I can see where you are coming from Joe, both stories being different than our current society. Unless something drastic happened to the world from Brave New World, I don't see how it could lead into the Road. I do see how The Road could precede BNW, though

I do not think that The Road is a sequel to Brave New World. In fact I think that it is just the opposite. Brave New World is more likely a sequel to The Road. The reason I say that is because The Road dicusses the time when the bombs went off. But in BNW the war happened long time ago.

In no way shape or form is the road a sequel to brave new world. they are totally to different topic. brave new world everything is ok people are leaving fine they have no one trying to kill them. but in the road everyday is a struggle to stay alive for the average person, people are tryinmg to kill you so they can have food. brave new world is trying to create more human and the road is terminating them.

I don't think the Road is the sequel to Brave New World. I agree with Jake that it is the prequel to Brave New World. The family that the boy joined could of been scientists before the nuclear bombings and fallout and used the which when we leave them were three but they found two more and used each child as a model to the different societies in Brave New World. I can see how you could see it as a sequel like Mike said the lower classes of society after seeing people like John the Savage, Helmholtz and they were able to break out from the rules of their social class and how people are to act made them go crazy and just destroying civilization in the process. Also the Savages in New Mexico could be the bloodcults in The Road.

No i do not feel that the road is anything like brave new world.i feel that the road is nothing like it either.

BACK. Not at all. I have a hard time putting the Road and Brave New World together. The civilizations in both are totally opposite making it impossible for anything to work out. Plus there is not enough people left in the road for a continuation.

Kevin Curley said...

No, not at all; "Brave New World" is supposed to be a Utopia, and "The Road" is a Distopia. The books are in no way similar. The only logical way this could be a sequel is if the perfect society fell apart, and the Alphas created an Atomic bomb, sent all the lower classes to America, and dropped the bomb.

I don't think The Road could be a sequel. The stories are very different, and the times don't match up. They both take place in the future, so I don’t think this idea would work. Brave New World's story is set too far into the future so it wouldn’t make sense that The Road would take place after Brave New World.

I do no think that the Road is a sequal. I thing that this is a completely different world in a different time. In comparing the two "The Road," to me is a much better story. I just enjoyed the story line and the characters in this one so much more. To me, the Man was a very hard preson to read. He was a loving man im sure, but there was still something so unsettling about him that made me not trust him completly. All in all "the Road has my vote.

I think if you take BNW and go thirty years in the future then you will get The Road. The Road is what will happen to the at the end of the BNW civilization.

In a way, The Road could either be a sequel or a prequel to Brave New World. A sequel in that this new government could have collapsed and caused the end of the world. And a prequel in that after this big, almost world-ending, war the people left it to the government to come up with a brave new world.

The Road is not sequel to Brave New world because they both have different meanings. For example, Brave New World is set in the future with new technology and things.

I do not think the road is a sequel to A Brave New World. I think if anything that it was proceeding the rebuilt civilization that was soon to come from the boy.

No I do not think the road is a sequel of the brave new world because to me I got to diiferent perspectives from the two books.

No, I dont think that the road is a seque to Brave New World. If anything i believe that The Road should come before Brave new World.

Joe Dingle-EL said...

I would have to say no. The road would probably came after BNW like a before and after. The road is the after what happen after all the people in the world went crazy because they found out that they were living a fake life

In the later future I think that The Road could be a sequel to the book Brave New World. I think that’s its inevitable that we will bring about our own destruction with our own weapons of mass destruction. Its very possible that The Road could be a sequel.
