Fake Death

Do you think it was morally right that Leonato and Friar Francis faked that Hero was dead and why or why not?

No, I do not think that was the best way to go about finding out the truth of what had happened. If it were me I would just have said Hero ran away. Too much guilt was put on Claudio, guilt that he didn't deserve.

No, I don’t think it was morally right to go along with Hero’s death. I could see where they were coming from since their family name had been put to shame. I think that they could have found a better way of restoring the family name.

I do not believe anyone was hurt by the faking of the death and they found out what truly happened. I see know problem with what they did.

Morally i dont see why not. They have done nothing wrong to put there morals in jearprody the only thing they have done is seek the truth.

I dont think it was a bad thing that Leonato and Friar Francis faked Hero's death because they was just trying to find out the truth about something.

I don’t think it was morally wrong. I thought it was worst that Hero was given a false identity due to the lies. The only way to find out the truth was if she pretended to be dead.

I feel that morally it was wrong because people thought she was dead. I feel that is a wrong trick to play on Claudio, because in return he could have hurt himself because he was sad for her.

No, I believe that it was wrong for Friar Francis and Leonato to trick Claudio in the death of Hero. He felt so bad because he thought he killed Hero.

Yes i do because it was the only way to find out if Claudio truly loved her. Some people may have thought that he wanted out of the marriage and made up a story. I believe it was a good idea to fake her death.

I do not think that faking Hero's death was the best way to go because death in my mind is a serious thing. I do not think it is right to joke about it or to take advantage of death because it can cause people to feel guilty or bad about the death.

I do not believe that it is morally right that Leonato and Friar Francis faked Hero's death, but at the same time I understand that the purpose of this lie was to findout the true culprit of the scandal surrounding Claudio and Hero's wedding. To me this justifies what Friar Francis did.

Morally i do think it is wrong to do that to someone but i see where Leonato and Friar Francis are coming from. I like there idea of trying to make Claudio feel guilty about accusing Hero but i do not agree with the way they went about doing so.

I do not think it was the right way to go about finding the truth, but it fit for this story. If it was a true story I do not think this would be a good idea, but since it is made up I think that this was an interesting and genius way of finding out the truth, and punishing Claudio.

I don't think it was the right thing to do because it was lying and I'm sure if they just got Barachio to tell the truth then Claudio would have believed him.

It was not morally for a person to have a fake death, but at this point it was right because, that's the only thing that would have got Claudio to respond to what happened. Nothing would have happened if they did not fake the death.

No, I don't think that it was right to fake the death of Hero because it weighed so heavy on Claudio. That was a very soft move on Leonato's part because he knew that Claudio really loved Hero and that made him feel like he was responsible for killing her. Also, I don't understand it because Leonato wasn't happy with Hero about what happened and faking her death helped her out. This made it easy for her to recover this with a clean slate, and Claudio to feel indebted to Leonato's family.

I think it was wrong that they faked Hero's death because that is just plain wrong and what if she could have really died and everyone would feel bad for what they did.

No I dont think this was morally right because they had to live to get the truth and by them lying cause them to fake Heros death which wasnt really right.

Faking Hero's death was definitly a huge comic relief, in the sense that the purpetrators got what they deserved. This really made the play end in a way that the audience could enjoy it and have a good time too.

I don't feel that what Friar Frances did was morally wrong. I think that he did what needed to be done in order to prove Hero's innocence. I feel that it worked because not only did it prove Hero still is a virgin, but it also got Don John, Conrade, and Barraccio caught.

Joey Barrick said...

Morally, I think that it was wrong to trick Claudio into thinking Hero was dead because it was basically lying straight to Claudio's face. It was deception and basically using Claudio to their advantage. However, the outcome was a positive one so I don't think too much damagage was done.

I beleive that faking Hero's death was pretty cruel and extreme. Though it worked to help find out what really happened, i am sure there would have been a better way of doing this.

I did not think that it was the right thing to do. If i was Claudio I would be so mad over this whole thing. To find out that the woman i loved had forst "cheated one me," then to find out that she had not and that my over reaction caused her "death ." I dont know what i would do with myself. And then to find out that it was all a joke. I would not be dancing. I would be livid and this action would be unforgivable.

Yes, I do, it makes the person cherish him/her more. It really shows how they fell about that person. Especially in this case and at this time, i think it was smart to do that.

Morally it wasn't right to fake Hero's death but if it was the only way top find the truth I don't think it wasn't a bad idea. If they have never faked her death Hero and Claudio would have never been together and Don John would have gotten away for good.

tabbannister8 said...

I think that it wasn't the best idea, but it worked. They wanted Claudio to take back what he said, and feel horrible for what he did so they did in the end, by this plan. They also got a lot more out of this then they planned by catching Don Juan in his scheme to ruin everything.

I dont think that it was a good idea to fake her death to find the truth. It is ever an good idea to fake someone death because when that happens people lives changes when there is death and they do things they would never normally do.

no i do not think that it was morally wrong to do this. I think that is was the best way to find out what really happened. even if it looked bad it was the only way to get the truth out before somehitng even worse happend.

I do not see how one's morals, or lack of morals, played any role in Friar Francis' plan. Sometimes, in order to discover the truth about something, one must be deceptive. Lying, in order to restore one's honor, at least in my opinion, is not only morally acceptable, but it should be encouraged when other means are not available.

RJ Schmitz said...

I think that it was morally right to fake Hero's death because she didn't do anything to deserve what happened to her on her wedding day. So even though a bit extreme I thought it was right of them to fake Hero's death in order to get the truth out.

I don't think it was morally wrong, I just think it didn't make much sense. Claudio didn't deserve to be punished, they should have just went about finding out what happened, having her "die" was completely pointless.

In order to answer the question, you must take several things into account that greatly affect the answer. The first aspect to look at is, of course, the act itself. By feigning death. they had fooled an entire town into believing a lie. Under most circumstances lying is wrong. Yet, there are always extenuating circumstances. To judge whether or not the need for Leonato to know the truth is enough reason to make such a lie is a decision each person has to make for themselves. Morals are subjective for the most part. What is right to one person is unacceptable to another.

No i dnt think it was right because they made everyone feel ashamed of themselves. this made the whole book shift from love to grief

No, it definitely wasn't morally right to go along and fake Hero's death. They definitely could have come up with a better excuse that wouldn't involve anyone feeling particularly guilty like Claudio. I guess it all turned out for the better because faking his death led up to finding out the truth about everything, but that still doesn't make it right to lie about something, especially that serious.

RyanSmith said...

I don't think it was the right thing to do in the situation but if you look at how they benefited from the situation and how the story ended it was good.

Joe Dingle-EL said...

i do think it was right for hero to fake her death because of the simple fact that all of those lies about her. basically hero had to do what she had to do so she could get what she wanted. i think it was great idea from friar.

Cody Steward said...

No, it's not morally wrong what they did, maybe a little cold hearted. Plus in the end, they find out Hero isn't actually dead, so that sort of makes up for it.

ttk said...

I think that this fake death was the best way to go with because Leonato and Hero needed to see if Claudio's love was genuine or not.

I do not think that anything bad came out of this decision to fake Hero's death, but from a moral stand point, it probabl was not the best way to go about finding the truth. It was unfair to Claudio to put that guilt on him, but then again it was unfair to Hero that she got framed. So it was on okay decision based on the outcome, but it probably went against a few morals.
